WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE MOVING WITH MULTIPLES

Moving to a new home in a nearby town can be an exciting experience for the whole family. It is usually not that stressful.

On the other hand, relocating to a foreign land or across the country to another state with the whole clan is another matter.

This entails more time and includes other aspects such as financial concerns and the availability of physical resources.

Although it might sound challenging or tedious at first, it is really not. There are a lot of tips and pointers that one can actually follow to ease the migration process. One important thing to remember is to actually have a plan. Strategize and be organized.

PLAN AHEAD

Always remember that planning ahead will always bring a win-win situation. According to an article from BabyCenter, when you plan to travel (or relocate) abroad, you must always expect the unexpected. This thinking is quite necessary because it will make you become more prepared for the things you’ll need to do in case of emergencies.

It also helps when you are organized. A very useful tip is to have a dedicated bag labeled properly for a specific person. For example, if you have fraternal twins, you could have a blue bag for your son and a pink one for your girl, with each bag labeled accordingly. This way, it is easier to get the things that your son or daughter might need in a timely and less confusing manner.

ESSENTIALS FOR YOUR MULTIPLES

Moving home with your twins, triplets or quads is not the same as going to the park with them. It’s not as simple as grabbing them by the hand or carrying them on your shoulders as you go along. Remember that besides them, you still have other bags to worry about, all of which would require the use of your hands.

In order for you to effectively multitask and stay mobile during the whole process of moving, you will need the help of one or both of the items listed below. Invest in high-quality ones. They might be a bit more expensive but it will surely be of better assistance and would last you a long time.

Baby sling carrier
This will become one of your new best friends. As mentioned earlier, you will need to have more mobility and flexibility during this time. With a baby sling carrier on, you can now perform your tasks and keep your multiples close at the same time. It would be great if you invest in a carrier for twins. In case you have triplets or quads, this would leave you with just one or two others to worry about.

Double stroller
If you are already tired or if you need to move alone freely, the double stroller is your best bet. This is also a must-have because of its dual purpose. The first is, of course, to help keep your kids comfortable as you move around. Aside from that, it could also serve as a secondary pushcart where you can store your baby bags.

DON’T FORGET THESE THREE IMPORTANT KITS

There are only three kits to remember in preparing to move abroad with your multiples. These daily essentials are lifesavers. You may be choosing to pack light for the journey, but make sure you add these kits in your checklist ASAP.

First aid kit
Unfortunate events can’t be stopped but you can find ways to be prepared for them. Having a first aid kit is always important because it has everything you need in case of minor accidents that result in cuts and bruises. It’s also not surprising for kids to suddenly feel unwell in the course of the trip, so this kit must also contain Paracetamol/Ibuprofen and other medicines that the kids might suddenly need. The kit should also contain medication your children might already be on, for example, a Ventolin inhaler.

“Go” kit
The “go kit” is something that should always be packed and ready to bring along whether it’s a trip to the park or a move across the country. It contains food, water, and other essentials such as wet wipes. Make sure that your “go” kit is properly stocked at all times. Kids most of the time get tired easily and are always hungry. Stock up with enough snacks and bottled water. Add activity items such as coloring books or an Etch-a-Sketch for on-the-go entertainment.

Baby kit
If your multiples are still babies or toddlers, you must have a baby kit besides the two kits mentioned above. This kit will contain their milk,  diapers, clean clothes for them, and you!

Moving with multiples is a challenge that will require a lot of preparation. Many difficulties may cross your path while getting ready for this step, but do not be disheartened. You can minimize or avoid stressful situations if you plan ahead and wisely. Although it is better to over-prepare than to not prepare at all, be careful not to bring unnecessary stuff with you. Remember that you have multiple kids to take care of. That alone could be nerve-wracking as it is.

Being organized and prepared is key. It is definitely possible to have a worry and stress-free move with the whole family. So go ahead, enjoy the process, and have a good time on your new adventure.
