As editors, publishers, and writers, we know that the foreword serves not only as an introduction to the book; it also lends a depth to the narrative. The foreword writer for Multiples Illuminated: Life with Twins and Triplets, the Toddler to Tween Years not only does that, she also brings heart into the topic of raising multiples in the formative years of two to 12. As a mother of twins, and a twin herself, she has a unique perspective into parenting multiples from the perspective of a multiple.
We are so thrilled to introduce the writer of the foreword to our upcoming second anthology, Dr. Joan A. Friedman.
Dr. Joan A. Friedman is a gifted psychotherapist who has devoted many years of her professional career to educating twins and their families about twins’ emotional needs. Having worked through her own twinship challenges and parented her fraternal twin sons, she is a definitive expert about twin development. She is the author of Emotionally Healthy Twins: A New Philosophy for Parenting Two Unique Children and The Same but Different: How Twins Can Live, Love, and Learn to Be Individuals. She is currently working on her third book, dedicated to educators and mental health professionals who work with multiples.
Dr. Friedman is a speaker and frequent guest on TV and radio shows such as the Today Show and Dr. Drew Show, sharing her expertise in the area of raising twins of all ages. She is also the resident twin expert on various websites and magazines such as Kids in the House and Multiplicity Magazine.
When I speak as a “twin expert,” I qualify my remarks by emphasizing that no parenting philosophy should espouse the notion that “one size fits all.” How we choose to raise our children is a composite of our individual life experiences, our values and ethics, and our communities. Learning about varied ideas and approaches is the lens through which we can expand our consciousness and grow.– extract from the foreword of Multiples Illuminated: Life with Twins and Triplets, the Toddler to Tween Years, Dr. Joan A. We are so fortunate that Joan has been a staunch supporter of Multiples Illuminated from the start. She wrote a wonderful blurb for our first book and has been a great source of advice and insight to us into the world of multiples. We are honored and thrilled that Joan is writing the foreword of our book can’t wait for you to read it!
